Description

Resting Between Notes masterfully combines metal and stone to capture the soulful essence of a street musician’s life. The piece features a guitar busker peacefully sleeping against a brick fence, embodying the quiet moments between the melodies and the stories of those who live for their music.

This sculpture is a celebration of urban life, creativity, and the struggles and rewards of a busker’s journey. The combination of recycled metal and natural stone not only highlights Zimbabwe’s rich sculptural tradition but also reflects themes of sustainability, resilience, and the connection between art and environment.

Recycled Metal & Rapoko Stone

These sculptures are often made from a variety of reclaimed metals, such as scrap iron, old tools, vehicle parts, and other industrial remnants, which the artist repurposes to craft intricate and detailed figures or abstract forms.

Rapoko Stone is a common name used in southern Africa including Zimbabwe for Steatite or Soapstone. A metamorphic rock that forms through the metamorphism of magnesium-rich rocks, primarily ultramafic rocks such as peridotite and pyroxenite. Rapoko Stone primarily consists of talc, which is a soft mineral composed of magnesium, silicon, and oxygen. It may also contain other minerals such as chlorite, pyroxenes, amphiboles, micas, and carbonates, its exact mineral composition can vary depending on the specific source.
